“The first thing I remember knowing, was a lonesome whistle blowing, and a young ‘un’s dream of growing up to ride on a freight train leaving town, not knowing where I’m bound.
And no one could change my mind but Mama tried…”
We’d bet there are some proud mamas behind EDGEtv Influencers, but we’d also bet there’s a disproportionate amount of gray hairs. You see, our Influencers ain’t exactly content with staying indoors playing Tiddlywinks. They’re jumping out of airplanes, dropping into 50-foot waves, grinding rails, slacklining over abysses, and traveling the world with guitars on their backs. We asked a few of them to drop us a line about their mothers for this issue. Here are some responses (not) only a mother could love.
Mama Knows Best

EDGEtv Influencer, Colby James West, decided drift car racing would be a good thing to get into in addition to hucking backflips on skis. Imagine that call home to Mom.
But according to West, “When I was young, Mum could have helped me when I thought I needed it, but she didn’t. She knew what she was doing.”
Go Play Outside!

“Mom has always given me the strongest motivation to be outside. She has always supported me on challenging my abilities and helping me leave my comfort zone. She is the real deal when thinking about a loyal, strong, lovely, and inspiring example of a human being.”

“With the exception of the few times she made me turn my guitar amp down while I was practicing (I mean come on, it was only on 9!), our mom has been the single most supportive and inspirational person in our lives (along with our Dad). She’s been with us every step of the way, from the garage to the festival stage. And when we finally take a break from performing, she’s skiing black diamonds with us at our home away from home, Gore Mountain in New York’s Adirondack region. She’ll be with us through the rest of this long, strange trip…and Jocelyn and I wouldn’t want it any other way!”
